Michael Breining, a farmer, and his wife Elisabeth Margaretha arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 4 July 1766 aboard the galliot Die Fortuna under the command of Skipper Peter Stahl.
They settled in the Volga German colony of Göbel on 20 June 1767. Michael is recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 25 along with his new wife Katharina.
The Oranienbaum passenger list records that Michael Breining came from the German region of Löwenstein.
The 1767 census records that he came from the German village of Weilbach in the Mainz region.
