Joseph Benzler [sic], a single farmer, arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 11 June 1766 aboard a snow-brig named Der Jäger (The Hunter) under the command of Skipper Gabriel Will.
Joseph Bentzler [sic] is recorded on a list of colonists being transported from St. Petersburg to Saratov in 1767.
Joseph Brenzler (age 38) arrived in the Volga German colony of Seelmann on 15 July 1767. He is recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 14 along with his [new] wife Anna Maria (age 26) and their newborn daughter Maria Magdalena (age 6-months).
The Oranienbaum passenger list records that Joseph Benzler [sic] came from Köln. The 1767 census records that Joseph Brenzler came from the German village of Giserl in the Duchy of Berg.
There are no known surviving male lines of this Brenzler family among the Volga German colonies.
