Discussion & Documentation

Johann Heinrich Büchsenschütz, son of Johann Michael Büchsenschütz, married in Rückingen on 2 June 1763 to Catharina Elisabeth Straub, daughter of Johannes Straub. They had two children in Rückingen: (1) Catharina Elisabeth, born 26 April 1764; and (2) Maria Catharina, born 22 December 1765, died 6 January 1766.

Johann Heinrich Büchsenschütz, a mechanic, his wife Katharina, daughter Katharina (age 3), and mother Anna arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 18 June 1766 aboard the ship Die Perle with skipper Thomson at the helm along with servant Adam Maÿ.

Adam Maÿ is recorded on the 1767 Census in the Volga German colony of Kolb.  The Büchsenschütz family does not appear to have been recorded on the 1767 census, but daughter Katharina is recorded on the 1798 Census in the Volga German colony of Bauer (Household No. Br25) as being "from Kolb."

The Büchsenschütz surname does not appear to have continued among the Volga German colonies.
