Johann Heinrich Calcoste was born about 1789 in the Prussian village of Minden.
He served as a soldier in the Westphalia Infantry Regiment of Napoleon's Army. He fought and was captured by the Russians.

He was settled in the Volga German colony of Galka and assigned to the household of Michael Schmidt.
Milovidov records that Johann Heinrich Calcoste came from the Prussian village of Minden in the German region of Westfalen.
There are no known surviving male lines of this Calcoste family among the Volga German colonies.
