Discussion & Documentation

Augustin Chasselois, a military officer (Offizier), and his family settled in the Volga German colony of Chasselois on 2 August 1766. They are recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 1 along with a note identifying Augustin Chasselois as the colony's mayor (Vorsteher). It is after this family that the colony took its name.

The 1767 census records that Augustin Chasselois came from the Austrian village of Rheinholz.
