The 1767 census records that Jean Crety came from the French town of Rennes and that his wife Maria Wiedeberg had come from the Danish town of Christinen [?]. The 1776 Katharinenstadt Land Register records that Jean Crety came from the town of Rennes in the Bratagen region and that his wife came form the Danish town of Kristiansand [from 1523-1814, Norway was governed by Denmark].
