Johann Gottfried Döring, a potter (Töpfer), settled in the Volga German colony of Nieder-Monjou on 23 July 1767. He is recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 34 along with his new wife Margaretha and her one-month-old daughter Johanna (surname not recorded).

A note on the 1767 census records that Johann Gottfried Döring moved to the colony of Katharinenstadt in 1768.

Gottfried Döhring and his family are recorded on the 1798 census of Katharinestadt in Household No. Ka093.

The 1767 census records that Johann Gottfried Döring came from the German town of Dresden.
