Johannes Dann, a farmer, and his family arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 12 September 1766 aboard the English frigate Love & Unity under the command of Skipper Thomas Fairfax.

Joh. Dann, his wife Marta, and children (Wilhelm, age 17¾; Adolff, age 12¼; Clara, age 6) are recorded on the list of colonists being transported from St. Petersburg to Saratov in 1767.

They settled in the Volga German colony of Philippsfeld on 3 August 1767.  They are recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 22.

In 1769, Johannes Damm and his family moved from Philippsfeld to Zürich.

Wilhelm Dann and his family are recorded on the 1798 census of Zürich in Household No. Zr39.

The 1767 census records that Johannes Damm came from the German village of Friedewald.
