Discussion & Documentation

Georg Danner, a farmer, and his wife Katharina arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 20 May 1766 aboard the Russian galliot Catharina Eleonora under the command of Skipper Peter Röder.

Katharina died and Georg remarried to Gertruda, the widow of Johann Holzmann. The combined Danner/Holzmann family settled in the Volga German colony of Leichtling on 14 May 1767 and are recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 34.

The Oranienbaum passenger list records that Georg Danner came from the German region of Nürnberg while the 1767 census records that he was from Ansbach.
