Two Diehl families arrived from Lübeck via Reval [Estonia] at the port of Oranienbaum on 24 May 1766 aboard a pinque named Лапоминк (Lapomink - a Russian river) under the command of Lieutenant Dmitry Krykov and arrived in the Volga German colony of Keller on 12 May 1767. The relationship of these two Diehl families is recorded on neither the Oranienbaum passenger list nor the 1767 census. The relationship between these families, if any, needs additional research.
(1) Johannes Diel of Rothenbach in "Satrapia Lohrana" [Lothringen], son of the deceased Johannes Diel, married on 8 February 1762 in Sossenheim to Maria Elisabetha Kaus of Unterhosbach, daughter of the deceased Johannes Peter Kaus.
The baptism of a son born to Johannes Diehl & Maria Elisabetha Kaus is recorded in the parish register of St. Michael Catholic Church in Sossenheim: Johannes Paul, baptized 15 March 1763.
Johann[es] Diehl, his wife Elisabeth, and son Paul (age 4) arrived in Oranienbaum and are recorded on the 1767 census of Keller in Household No. 51. The 1767 census records that Johannes Diehl came from the German village of Rothenbach in the Kurmainz region.
(2) The baptism of a son born in Sossenheim to Johannes Jakob & Anna Katharina Diehl is recorded in the parish register of St. Michael Catholic Church in Sossenheim: Johannes, baptized 3 January 1761, died 10 January 1761.
Johann Diehl, his wife Anna, and children (Wilhelm, age 16½; Mathias, age 12; Katharina, age 10½; Johann, age 4) arrived in Oranienbaum.
The surviving children (Katharina, age 11; Karl, age 5) are recorded on the 1767 census of Keller in Household No. 49 along with their stepfather Kaspar Adam.
The Oranienbaum passenger list records that Johann Diehl came from the German region of Mainz.
There are no known surviving male lines of this Diehl family among the Volga German colonies.
