Discussion & Documentation

Johann Just Döring, a single man, arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 14 September 1766 aboard the galliot Der Jan under the command of Skipper Markus Dragun.

He settled in the Volga German colony of Norka on 26 August 1767 where he is recorded on the 1767 census in Household No. 192 along with his new wife Anna Margaretha.

The Oranienbaum passenger list records that Just Döring is a cobbler while the 1767 census records that he is a craftsman (Handwerker). Both documents record that he came from the German district of Stollberg.

No male descendant lines with this surname have been identified among the Volga German colonies.
