Discussion & Documentation

Christian Döhring, a farmer, his wife Elisabeth, and children (Johann [Thomas], age 16; Anna [Margaretha], age 10; Heinrich, age 8; Marianna, age 5) arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 12 September 1766 aboard the English frigate Love & Unity under the command of Skipper Thomas Fairfax.

Christian Döring, his wife Elisabeth, and children (Johann Thomas, age 16; Martha, age 11; Johann Heinrich, age 8; Maria, age 5) are recorded on the list of colonists being transported from St. Petersburg to Saratov in 1767.

Christian Döhring, a farmer, his wife Elisabeth, and children (Thomas, age 15; Margaretha, age 12; Heinrich, age 8) settled in the Volga German colony of Ober-Monjou on 23 July 1767 and are recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 71 along with a note that they relocated to the colony of Schönchen.

However, the Movement Table of the 1798 census records that, in 1769, widow Elisabeth Döhring and her children moved from Ober-Monjou to Schönchen.

In 1774, Christoph Derr [Döhring] and his family moved from Schönchen to Penza.

The Oranienbaum passenger list records that Christian Döring came from the German region of Mainz. The 1767 census records that he came from the German village of Sondersfeld.
