Valentin Euchler [sic], his wife Elisabeth, and the single Elisabeth [Batzel] (age 20) arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 9 June 1766 aboard an English barque named George under the command of Skipper Adam Bairnsfair.
Valentin Euchler [sic], his wife Dorothea, and maid [?] Dorot. Elisab. Batzel are recorded on the list of colonists being transported from St. Petersburg to Saratov in 1767. [See Batzel Family.]
Valentin Eichler, a carpenter (Zimmermann), his wife Elisabeth Brodt, and daughter Maria (age 3-months) are recorded on the 1767 census of Katharinenstadt in Household No. 125. They had settled there on 7 June 1767.
Valentin Eichler, his wife Elisabeth Dorothea, children (Maria Dorothea, age 9; Johann Karl, age 1) and mother-in-law Hanna Liegenbach [Lingelbach] (age 68) are recorded on the 1776 Katharinenstadt Family List in Household No. 12 along with a note that another daughter Katharina was born 7 January 1779. [See Lingelbach Family.] Another note records that wife Elisabeth Dorothea Eichler née Liegenbach died 8 January 1777 [so he had married again?].
Karl Eichler, son of Valentin, is recorded on the 1798 census of Katharinenstadt in Household No. Ka015.
The death of Karl Eichler in 1821 is recorded on the 1834 census of Katharinenstadt in Household No. 20.
Gottfried Eichler and his family are recorded on the 1857 census of Rosental along with a note that they had arrived in Rosental from Katharinenstadt on 5 November 1856.
The Oranienbaum passenger list records that Valentin Euchler [sic] came from the German region of Dessau. The 1767 census records that Valentin Eichler came from the German village of Kornfeld [perhaps Crainfeld] in the Grünberg region. The 1776 Katharinenstadt Family List records that Valentin Eichler came from Kornfeld in Hessen-Darmstadt and that his wife came from Grünberg in the Hessen-Darmstadt region.
