Discussion & Documentation:

Claas Epp (often referred to as Klaus Epp), son of Berend Epp & Maria Bergmann, was born 1 January 1803 in Schönsee in West Prussia [today, this village is located in Poland and known as Sosnówka]. He married on 20 March 1825 to Margaretha Klaassen, daughter of Dirk Klaassen & Anna Penner. Margaretha had been born 21 July 1800 in nearby Fürstenwerder.

They and their children, along with Berend's nephew Bernhard (born 14 June 1831 in Simonsdorf, Gross Werder) and his family, moved from Prussia to Russia in 1852 and settled originally in the Molotschna colony of Ohrloff. They moved on to the Volga colony of Hahnsau, arriving there on 14 January 1855.

Bernhard and his family later settled in Köppental.
