Discussion & Documentation:

It is believed that widower Jakob Peter Erb married the widow Elisabeth Wagner. He had 1 son (Johannes) from his previous marriage, and she had 3 children (Ludwig, Georg, & Katharina) from her previous marriage.

Peter Erb, a turner, his wife Elisabeth, children (Johann, age 10; Daniel, age 2½), and [step-]children (Ludwig [Wagner], age 16; Georg [Wagner], age 13; Katharina [Wagner], age 4) arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 12 September 1766 aboard the English frigate Love & Unity under the command of Skipper Thomas Fairfax.

Jacob Peter Erb, his wife Elisabetha, children (Johannes, age 11; Daniell, age 2½; Joh. Georg, age 4-weeks), and [step-]children (Ludwig [Wagner], age 17¼; Georg Nicolaus, age 14; Catarina, age 5) are recorded on the list of colonists being transported from St. Petersburg to Saratov in 1767 along with a note that father Jacob Peter and son Daniell died en route.

Widow Elisabeth Erb and sons (Johannes, age 12; Georg Wilhelm, age 9-months) are recorded on an appendix to the 1767 census of Paulskaya in Household No. 19 along with three Wagner children (Ludwig, age 17; Georg Nikolaus, age 13; Katharina, age 5). The relationship between the Erb and Wagner families is not recorded.

They settled in the colony of Basel.

The Oranienbaum passenger list records that Peter Erb came from the German region of Zweibrücken. The 1767 census records that Elisabeth Erb came from the German village of Grünenbach [?].

There are no known surviving male lines of this Erb family among the Volga German colonies.
