Johann[es] Erbes, a farmer, and his wife Engel arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 2 August 1766 aboard an English frigate named Love & Unity under the command of Skipper Thomas Fairfax.
Johann[es] Erbes and his wife Engel Catharina are recorded on the list of colonists being transported from St. Petersburg to Saratov in 1767.
They settled in the Volga German colony of Bettinger on 3 August 1767 and are recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 26.
The Oranienbaum passenger list records that Johann Erbes came from the German region of Hessen. The 1767 census records that Johannes Erbes came from the German village of Lehn [?].
There are no known surviving male lines of this Erbes family among the Volga German colonies.
