Eurich (Balzer)

There are two Eurich families from Düdelsheim that immigrated to Russia and settled in the Volga German colony of Balzer. Their relationship to each other, if any, requires further research.

(1) Lorenz Eurich [often recorded as variations of Laurentius Eÿring], son of Johann Conrad & Gertraudt Eurich, was baptized 4 February 1724 in Hellstein. He married in Düdelsheim on 19 November 1744 to Susanna Katharina Knaus. She had been born 28 October 1723 in Düdelsheim. She died in Düdelsheim and was buried there on 5 December 1759.

The baptisms of several children born to Lorenz Eurich & Susanna Katharina Knaus are recorded in the parish register of Düdelsheim: (a) Rebecca Wilhelmina, baptized 28 October 1745; (b) Johann Heinrich, baptized 19 February 1747; (c) Johannes, baptized 26 May 1749; (d) Balthasar, baptized 7 March 1751; (e) Johann Conrad, baptized 8 July 1753; (f) Scharlotta, baptized 8 May 1757; and (g) Johann Peter, baptized 19 June 1759.

Following the death of Susanna Katharina Eurich née Knaus, Lorenz remarried on 3 December 1761 in Düdelsheim to Anna Maria Schwartz. She died before departure for Russia.

Widower Lorenz Eurich, a farmer, and his children (Wilhelmina, age 21; Heinrich, age 19; Johann, age 17; Balthasar, age 15; Konrad, age 13; Charlotta, age 11) arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 4 July 1766 aboard a packet-boat under the command of Midshipman Mankensey.

Widower Lorenz Eurich, a craftsman (Handwerker), and his children (Wilhelmina, age 22; Johann Heinrich, age 20; Johannes, age 18; Balthasar, age 16; Johann Konrad, age 14) are recorded on the 1767 census of Balzer in Household No. 47.

(b) Heinrich Eurich and his family are recorded on the 1798 census of Kukkus in Household No. Kk02.

Heinrich Eurich and his family are recorded on the 1834 census of Kukkus in Household No. 46 at the age of 92.

(c) Johannes Eurich and his family are recorded on the 1798 census of Balzer in Household No. Bz077.

(d) Baltasar Eurich and his family are recorded on the 1798 census of Balzer in Household No. Bz066.

(e) In 1788, Konrad Eurich and his family moved from Balzer to Saratov.

(2) Johann Adam Eurich, son of Philipp & Anna Elisabeth Eurich, was born 31 August 1732 in Udenhein.

He married on 14 October 1755 in Düdelsheim to Anna Catharina Dietzel, daughter of Johann Georg & Julianna Dietzel. She had been baptized on 1 February 1728 in Düdelsheim.

The baptisms of several children born to Johann Adam Eurich & Anna Catharina Dietzel are recorded in the parish register of Düdelsheim: (a) Johann Adam, baptized 24 August 1755; (b) Johannes, baptized 25 January 1757; (c) Johann Heinrich, baptized 7 March 1758; (d) Anna Maria, baptized 6 July 1760; (e) Anna Gertruda, baptized 30 August 1761; and (f) Johann Conrad, baptized 25 November 1764.

Adam Eurich, a farmer, his wife Katharina and sons (Johann Adam, age 11; Konrad, age 1½) arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 4 July 1766 aboard a packet-boat under the command of Midshipman Mankensey.

Adam Eurich, a farmer, his wife Anna Katharina, and son Johann Adam (age 12) are recorded on the 1767 census of Balzer in Household No. 42.

The widow and daughter of Adam Eurich (the son) are recorded on the 1798 census of Balzer in Household No. Bz088.

In 1790, widow Katharina Eurich [widow of Adam Eurich, the father] remarried to Samuel Schneider in Pobochnaya and took her children Johann, Konrad, Heinrich, and Katharina with her. They are recorded on the 1798 census of Pobochnaya in Household No. Pb02 along with a note that eldest son Heinrich is working in the colony of Huck. [Another note accompanying the 1798 census records that the deceased Adam Eurich was from Grimm, but this is believed to be a mistake, and should have been Balzer.]
