Johann Peter Ewald, a farmer, his unnamed wife, and 2 unnamed children (1 son & 1 daughter) immigrated to Denmark (Schleswig-Holstein) arriving in Fridericia on 15 May 1760. They are last recorded among the Danish colonies on 1 January 1766.
They joined the migration to Russia and settled in the Volga German colony of Walter on 25 August 1767. They are recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 77.
The Eichhorns record that Johann Peter Ewald came from "Kellerei Waldeck, Oberamt Heidelberg" or from the German region of Hanau. The 1767 census records that he came from the German village of Freigericht in the Hanau region.
