Faust / Foos (Schuck)*
Johann Jakob Faust, a cobbler (Schuhmacher), his wife Susanna Maria, and her children (Johann Georg [Rolheiser], age 16; Georg Adam [Rolheiser], age 14; Johann Mattias [Rohleiser], age 10) are recorded on the 1767 census of Schuck in Household No. 37. They had settled there on 1 May 1767.
It is interesting to note that his daughter has been adopted by Heinrich Samuel Niedens in the colony of Kratzke (see photo of Kratzke census).
Widower Jakob Foos is recorded on the 1798 census of Franzosen in Household No. Fz47 along with a note that he is in the Russian town of Serdobskaya with State Advisor Verderevski. This is very probably the Jakob Faust recorded in Schuck in 1767. One of his Rolheiser stepsons had also moved to Franzosen.
The death of this Jakob Foos is recorded in the colony of Seelmann on 17 February 1803. This daughter Anna Margaretha (who had been adopted by the Niedens family) is also at that time living in Seelmann along with her husband Johannes Sewald and family (recorded on the 1798 census of Seelmann in Household No. Sm07).
The 1767 census records that Johann Jakob Faust/Foos came from the German village of Preetz [?] in the Holstein region.
There are no known male descendant lines (Faust or Foos) from this family among the Volga German colonies.
