Discussion & Documentation

Philipp Filseker, a farmer, his wife Anna Maria, and children (Johann Martin, age 13; Anna Margaretha, age 11; Maria Magdalena, age 9; Maria Anna, age 6; Sebastian, age 3) arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 12 September 1766 aboard the snow-brig Frei Gebruder under the command of Skipper Minzberger along with widow Anna Senner, his sister-in-law, and her son Johann (age 2¼).

Phill. Vilseker [sic], his wife Anna Maria, and children (Johann Martin, age 15½; Anna Margretha [sic], age 12; Maria Magdalena, age 9; Maria Anna, age 7) are recorded on a list of colonists being transported from St. Petersburg to Saratov in 1767 along with a note that mother Anna Maria and daughter Maria Magdalena died in route.

It is not verfied, but they are believed to have settled in the colony of Leitsinger along with many of the other families from the Bamberg area with whom they were traveling, and when Leitsinger was destroyed in 1774, those surviving members of the family relocated to Neu-Kolonie.

Maria Anna Filsecker from Neu-Kolonie is recorded on the 1798 census of Schilling in Household No. Sg062 as the wife of Heinrich Stengel.

The Oranienbaum passenger list records that Philipp Filseker came from the German region of Bamberg.

There are no known surviving male lines of this Filsecker family among the Volga German colonies.
