Discussion & Documentation

Mattias Fischer, a farmer, his wife Anna, and children (Johann, age 12; Robertus, age 9; Anna, age 4-weeks) arrived from Lübeck via Reval [Estonia] at the port of Oranienbaum on 24 May 1766 aboard a pinque named Лапоминк (Lapomink - a Russian river) under the command of Lieutenant Dmitry Krykov.

Widow Maria Katharina Fischer is recorded on a list of colonists being transported from St. Petersburg to Saratov in 1767.

Widow Maria Katharina Fischer, whose unnamed husband had died while being transported to the Volga by Lieutenant Friedrich Oldenburg, and her children (Johann Georg, age 15; Robertus, age 12; Anna Maria, age 1½) are recorded on the 1767 census of Preuss in Household No. 131 along with a note that they relocated to the colony of Seelmann in 1768. They had arrived in Preuss on 15 July 1767.

The Oranienbaum passenger list records that Mattias Fischer came from the German region of the Pfalz. The 1767 census records that Maria Katharina Fischer came from the German village of Wenden.

There are no known surviving male lines of this Fischer family among the Volga German colonies.
