Johannes Fossel, a farmer, his wife Maria Anna, and daughters (Elisabeth, age 3; Katharina, age 1) are recorded on the 1767 census of Herzog in Household No. 14. They had arrived in Herzog on 14 July 1766.
The 1767 census records that Johannes Fossel came from the German village of Neuburg in Bayern (Bavaria).
There are no known surviving male lines of this family among the Volga German colonies.
