Discussion & Documentation

Georg Freudenberg, a farmer, his wife Anna, and children (Johann, age 16; Anna, age 12; Ludwig, age 10½) arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 22 July 1766 aboard a barque named Der Junge Mattias (The Young Mattias) under the command of Skipper Johann Gottfried Selander.

They settled in the Volga German colony of Dehler on 1 July 1767. Georg Freidenberg [sic] (age 50), his wife Anna Eva (age 48), and children (Johannes, age 17; Anna Elisabeth, age 13; Johann Ludwig, age 11)  are recorded on the 1767 census of Dehler in Household No. 12.

The 1798 census of Brabander records son Ludwig (from Keller) in Household No. Bn30.

The Oranienbaum passenger list records that Georg Freudenberger came from the German region of Mainz. The 1767 census records that Georg Freudenberg came from the German village of Kinzeldorf in the Kurmainz region. Researcher Anonymous2 reports that this family came from the German village of Bauerbach near Marburg.
