Ernst Funk, his wife, and four children immigrated to Denmark (Schleswig-Holstein) in 1762. They joined the migration to Russia in 1765.
Widower Ernst Funk, a farmer, and his children settled in the Volga German colony of Rosenheim on 15 March 1766. They are recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 53.
The 1767 census records that Ernst Funk came from the German village of Öttingen in Austria. The Eichhorn research records that Ernst Funk came from "Ittlingen, Ritterlicher Kanton Kraichgau, Herrschaft von Freiherr von Gemmingen."
