Göbel (Walter)*

Johann Wilhelm Göbel, a cobbler, his wife Margaretha, and children (Anna, age 10¼; Friederika, age 9; Johann, age 2½) arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 19 July 1766 aboard the barque named Fortitudo under the command of Skipper John Scott.

Johann Göbel, a craftsman (Handwerker), his wife Margaretha, and daughters (Maria, age 12½; Friederika, age 10½) are recorded on the 1767 census of Walter in Household No. 85. They had settled there on 25 August 1767.

Daughter Anna Maria Göbel is recorded on the 1798 census of Walter in Household No. Wt037 as the wife of Johann Heinrich Butherus.

Both the Oranienbaum passenger list and the 1767 census records that Johann Göbel came from the German region of Hanau.

There are no known surviving male lines of the Göbel family among the Volga German colonies.
