Martin Götschel, a single hosier (Strumpfwirker), arrived from Reval [Estonia] at the port of Oranienbaum aboard the pink Slon under the command of Lieutenant Sergey Panov.

He settled in the Volga German colony of Leitsinger on 12 May 1767 and is recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 13 along with his new wife Anna Margaretha and her children (Markus, age 5; Peter, age 1) whose surname is not recorded.

The Oranienbaum passenger list records that Martin Götschel came from the German region of Sachsen (Saxony). The 1767 census records that he came from the German village of Berschbach.

There are no known surviving male lines of this family among the Volga German colonies.
