Nikolaus Gabel, a stonemason, and his wife Margaretha arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 24 July 1766 aboard a barque named Georg under the command of Skipper Adam Bairnsfair.
Nicolaus Gabel and his wife Catharina are recorded on the list of colonists being transported from St. Petersburg to Saratov in 1767.
The 1798 census of Schaffhausen records that he is from Susannental and living in Household No. Sh25 in Schaffhausen along with his sons (Joseph, age 22; Anton, age 18).
Joseph Gabel and his family are recorded on the 1834 census of Ober-Monjou in Household No. 76.
Anton Gabel and his family are recorded on the 1834 census of Ober-Monjou in Household No. 123 along with a note that he had died in 1825.
The Oranienbaum passenger list records that Nikolaus Gabel came from the German region of Mainz.
