Ludwig Gärtner, a farmer, his wife Anna, and son Georg Daniel (age 9-months) are recorded on the 1767 census of Katharinenstadt in Household No. 78. They had settled there on 27 August 1766.
The 1767 census records that Ludwig Gärtner came from the German region of Alzey.
There are no known surviving male lines of this Gärtner family among the Volga German colonies.
