Johann Giest, a farmer, and his wife Anna arrived from Lübeck at the port in Oraninenbaum on 12 September 1766 aboard the Love & Unity under the command of Thomas Fairfax.
Joh. Phillip Giest and his wife Anna Maria are recorded on a list of colonists being transported from Oranienbaum to Saratov in 1767.
Johann Philipp Giest, a farmer, and his [new] wife Regina are recorded on an appendix to the 1767 census of Paulskaya in Household No. 27 along with orphan Anna Barbara Braun (age 16). The 1767 census does not record a relationship between the Giest and Braun families although they arrived together in Oranienbaum and in Saratov.
The Oranienbaum passenger list records that Johann Giest came from the German region of Darmstadt. The 1767 census records that Johann Philipp Giest came from the German region of Auerbach.
There are no known surviving male lines of this Giest family among the Volga German colonies.
