Discussion & Documentation

Johann Peter Gieswein, son of Balthas Gieswein, was born 31 May 1721 in Quentel. He married on 1 April 1752 in Quentel to Martha Elisabetha Letzig, daughter of Jeremias Letzig & Anna Gela Heinemann. Martha Elisabetha Letzig had been baptized 18 July 1729 in Quentel. Record of the baptism of one of their children has also been located in Quentel: Elisabeth, baptized 4 June 1752.

Peter Gieswein, a farmer, his wife Martlisa [sic], and children (Christina, age 6; Johann Erbens, age 2) are recorded on the 1767 census of Moor in Household No. 3 along with the single Johann Jakob Braun (age 20). The relationship between the Gieswein and Braun families is not recorded on the 1767 census. They had settled in Moor on 1 July 1766.

They are recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 3 along with the single Johann Jakob Braun.

The 1767 census records that Peter Gieswein came from the German region of Hessen.
