Leon Girdwar, a tobacco worker (Tabakarbeiter), and his wife Barbara settled in the Volga German colony of Keller on 12 May 1767. They are recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 36 along with Barbara's son David Kloster (age 20).

The 1767 census records that Leon Girdwar came from the German region of Strassburg.

There are no known surviving male lines of this family among the Volga German colonies.
