Johann Martin Göbel and his wife Elisabeth arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 4 July 1766 aboard the English frigate Love & Unity under the command of Skipper Thomas Fairfax.
They settled in the Volga German colony of Galka on 27 July 1767 and are recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 57.
The 1767 census records that Johann Martin Göbel came from the German village of Altenberg [?] in the Stolberg region.
There are no known surviving male lines of this Göbel family among the Volga German colonies.
