Götz (Huck)*

There are two Götz families that settled in the Volga German colony of Huck. Neither of them had any male descendants, so the surname did not continue in Huck.  They did travel together to Russia, but it is unknown whether these two are related to each other.

(1) Christoph and Katharina Götz and their two daughters (Katharina, age 2¼; Christina, age 7) arrived from Lübeck at the port in Oranienbaum on 19 July 1766 aboard the snow-brig named Christina under the command of Skipper Jacob Stappenberg. Only the two girls appear to have survived the journey to the colonies, as they are recorded on the 1767 Census of Huck living in Household No. 31 with Johann Heinrich Neu and his mother, Anna Margaretha. There is probably a relationship between the Götz and Neu families, but exactly what relationship is unknown at this time.

(2) Another Christoph Götz and his wife Eleonora and their 30-year-old daughter Cunigunda also arrived from Lübeck at the port in Oranienbaum on 19 July 1766 aboard the same ship. It's quite possible that this Christoph is the father of the first one.  This Christoph also does not survive the trip to the colonies. The daughter, Cunigunda, married the widowed Wilhelm Sittner, and she and her mother are recorded with his family on the 1767 census of Huck in Household No. 40.
