Johann Grass and his wife Elisabeth arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 16 August 1766 aboard a snow-brig named Prinz Carl (Prince Carl) under the command of Skipper Christopher Losser.
Johann Gross [sic] and his wife Elisabeth are recorded on a list of colonists being transported from St. Petersburg to Saratov in 1767.
Johannes Grass, a farmer, his wife Anna, and daughter Anna (age 4) are recorded on an appendix to the 1767 census of Paulskaya in Household No. 25 along with a note that they relocated to the colony of Basel in 1768.
The 1767 census records that Johannes Grass came from the German village of Breitenbach.
There are no known surviving male lines of this Grass family among the Volga German colonies.
