Greb / Kreb (Stephan)
Johannes Greb [recorded variously also as Groeb, Grebe, Gröb], son of Hans Henrich Greb & Elisabeth Buchenau, was baptized 22 March 1693 in Windhausen. He married in Meiches on 18 August 1718 to Catharina Döring, daughter of Conrad Döring from Engelrod.
The baptisms of the following children born to Johannes Gräb & Catharina Döring are recorded in the parish register of Windhausen: (1) Johannes, born 17 February 1719, baptized 18 February 1719; (2) Johann Caspar, born & baptized on 15 February 1724; and (3) Johannes, born 12 December 1732, baptized 15 December 1732.
Johannes Gräb (born 1732), a shepherd, married on 19 February 1756 in Windhausen to Eva Catharina Freund, daughter of Stephan Freund. She had been born on 6 April 1727 in Meiches and baptized there on 7 April 1727.
The baptisms of several children of Johannes Gräb & Eva Catharina Freund are recorded in the parish register of Windhausen: (1) Johannes, born & baptized 14 November 1757; (2) Anna Elisabetha, born & baptized 1 July 1760; (3) Johann Georg, born & baptized 13 August 1762; and (4) Johannes, born & baptized 29 September 1764.
Johann[es] Greb, a farmer, his wife Eva Katharina, and children (Johann, age 10; Elisabeth, age 6) arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 13 September 1766 aboard a ship under the command of Lieutenant Gawril Poduzki.
Johannes Grüb [sic], his wife Eva Catarina, and children (Johannes, age 10; Elisabeth, age 7) are recorded on the list of colonists being transported from St. Petersburg to Saratov in 1767.
They settled in the Volga German colony of Stephan on 24 August 1767 and are recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 23.
Johannes Kreb and his family are recorded on the 1798 census of Stephan in Household No. Sp06 along with a note that his son Johann Georg Kreb is working in the colony of Holstein.
The death in 1820 of Johann Heinrich Kreb, son of Johannes Kreb, is recorded on the 1834 census of Stephan in Household No. 97.
The death in 1847 of Johannes Kreb, son of Johann Heinrich Kreb, is recorded on the 1850 census of Stephan in Household No. 148.
Johann Konrad Kreb, son of Johannes Kreb, is recorded on the 1857 census of Stephan in Household No. 150 along with a note that he relocated to the colony of Rosenberg in 1855.
Johann Konrad Kreb from Stephan and his sister Katharina Elisabeth are recorded on the 1857 census of Rosenberg in Household No. 82.
The Oranienbaum passenger list records that Johann Greb came from the German region of Darmstadt. The 1767 census records that Johannes Greb came from the German village of Windhausen.
