Groth (Walter)
Johannes Kroth [sic] and his son Johann Just (age 12) are recorded on the list of colonists being transported from St. Petersburg to Saratov in 1767.
Johann Jost Groth and his family are recorded on the 1798 census of Walter in Household No. Wt101 along with a note that a couple of his sons are working in the colony of Frank.
The Groth family is recorded on the 1834 census of Walter in Households No. 178 and 195.
August Groth and his brothers Johannes and Georg and their families from Walter are recorded on the 1857 census of Brunnental. They were joined in 1859 by Johann Just Groth (born 18 March 1812 in Walter).
Heinrich Groth, a descendant of Johann Just Groth, was a leading activist for the re-establishment of a Volga German Republic in the 1980s.
