Discussion & Documentation

Hermann Grün, a farmer, his wife Elisabeth, and children (Elisabeth, age 10¼; Konrad, age 9; Anna, age 2½) arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 2 August 1766 aboard an English frigate named Love & Unity under the command of Skipper Thomas Fairfax.

Hermann Grühn [sic], his wife Elisabeth, and children (Elisabet, age 10¼; Conrad, age 9) are recorded on the list of colonists being transported from St. Petersburg to Saratov in 1767 along with a note that Conrad died en route.

They settled in the Volga German colony of Ernestinendorf on 3 August 1767 and are recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 35.

The Oranienbaum passenger list records that Hermann Grün came from the German region of Darmstadt. The 1767 census records that Hermann Grün came from the German village of Atzenhain in the Darmstadt region.
