Christoph Guttmann, his wife Christina, and son Johann Christoph (age 8) immigrated to Denmark (Schleswig-Holstein) arriving in Flensburg on 9 June 1762.

They were dismissed from the Danish colonies on 1 May 1765 and joined the migration to Russia.

They settled in the Volga German colony of Stahl am Karaman on 9 July 1766 and are recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 12.

The Eichhorns record that Christoph Guttmann came from the German village of Neckargartach bei Heilbronn or from Württenberg. The 1767 census records that he came from the German city of Stuttgart in the Württemberg region.
