Johann[es] Haas, a farmer, and his wife Katharina arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 14 June 1766 aboard the ship named Die Neue Fortuna (The New Fortune) under the command of Skipper Ahrens Steingraber.
They arrived in the Volga German colony of Brabander on 13 August 1767 and are recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 24 along with orphan Johannes Kaster (age 3) whose parents died on the trip between Oranienbaum and Saratov. The 1767 census does not record a relationship between the Haas and Kaster families. [See Kaster Family.]
The Oranienbaum passenger list records that Johann Haas came from the German region of Breslau. The 1767 census records that he came from the German village of Windorf in Bayern (Bavaria).
There are no known surviving male lines of this Haas family among the Volga German colonies.
