Discussion & Documentation

Kaspar Hahn, his wife Barbara, and children (Dorothea, age 17; Christoph, age 14) arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 16 August 1766 aboard a galliot named Die Wachsamkeit under the command of Skipper Jacob Heinrich Sager.

Caspar Hahn, his wife Barbara, and children (Dorothea, age 18; Christoph, age 14) are recorded on the list of colonists being transported from St. Petersburg to Saratov in 1767.

They settled in the Volga German colony of Keller on 5 September 1767. Barbara died, and Kaspar remarried to Kunigunda. They are recorded on the 1767 census of Keller in Household No. 66 along with his surviving son Christoph (age 14) and her children (Anna, age 15; Friedrika Karolina, age 13; Barbara, age 12 [surname not recorded]).

The Oranienbaum passenger list records that Kaspar Hahn was a farmer from the German region of Würzburg. The 1767 census records that he was a cobbler (Schuhmacher) from the German village of Walensheim [?] in the Würzburg region.

There are no known surviving male lines of this Hahn family among the Volga German colonies.
