Hammel (Leitsinger)*

Johann Hammel, a farmer, his wife Gertrude, children (Katharina, age 19; Charlotta, age 17½; Johann, age 8; Lora [Eleonora], age 8; Anna, age 1), and his mother-in-law Anna arrived from Reval [Estonia] at the port of Oranienbaum aboard the pink Slon under the command of Lieutenant Sergey Panov.

Surviving daughter Eleonora Hammel is recorded on the 1767 census of Leitsinger in Household No. 22 along with the Jakob Schapert family. The 1767 census does not record a relationship between the Hammel and Schapert families.

The Oranienbaum passenger list records that Johann Hammel came from the German region of Mainz.

There are no known surviving male lines of this Hammel family among the Volga German colonies.
