Widower Johann[es] Händlein, a gunsmith (Kanonenschmied), settled in the Volga German colony of Boisroux on 3 August 1767. He is recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 91.
In 1770, Johannes Händlein left Boisroux for Moscow and from there returned to Germany.
The 1767 census records that Johann[es] Händlein came from the German village of Kempten in the Schwaben (Swabia) region.
There are no known surviving male lines of this family among the Volga German colonies.
