Discussion & Documentation

Georg Hartmann and his wife Margaretha arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 15 September 1766 aboard the galliot Adler under the command of Skipper Paul Adam Drath.

They settled in the Volga German colony of Hölzel on 11 September 1767. Georg is recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 37 along with his new wife Anna Maria.

The Oranienbaum passenger list records that Georg Hartmann was a farmer while the 1767 census records that he was a miller (Müller).

The 1767 census records that Georg Hartmann came from the German village of Nietheim [?] in the region of Schwaben (Swabia).

There are no known surviving male lines of this family among the Volga German colonies.
