Discussion & Documentation

Johann Hauck, a farmer, his wife Maria, and daughters (Sophia, age 16½; Elisabeth, age 14; Dorothea, age 8; Maria, age 4) arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 9 June 1766 aboard an English barque named George under the command of Skipper Adam Bairnsfair.

Gottfried Hauch [sic], his wife Christina, and daughters (Sophia, age 16; Soph. Elisabeth, age 14; Doroth. Elisabeth, age 8; Maria Louisa, age 6) are recorded on a list of colonists being transported from St. Petersburg to Saratov in 1767.

Anna Sophia Haus (age 19), and her siblings (Sophia Elisabeth, age 17; Dorothea Elisabeth, age 12; Maria Louisa, age 9) are recorded on the 1767 census of Kaneau in Household No. 22 along with their stepfather Christoph Lichtner. They had settled there on 7 June 1767. [See Lichtner Family.]

The Oranienbaum passenger list records that Johann Hauck came from the German region of Dessau.

There are no known surviving male lines of this Hauck family among the Volga German colonies.
