Johann Nikolaus Heiland, a tailor (Schneider), and his wife Maria Margaretha settled in the Volga German colony of Kamenka on 5 August 1765. They are recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 45 along with daughter Anna Maria (age 2).

The 1767 census records that Johann Nikolaus Heiland came from the German town of Kiel in the Holstein region.
