Discussion & Documentation

Johann Henning, a farmer, his wife Maria, and children (Konrad, age 4; Elisabeth, age 5-weeks) arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 19 July 1766 aboard a barque named Fortitudo (Fortitude) under the command of Skipper John Scott.

Johann Peter Henning, a wheelwright (Stellmacher), his wife Maria Elisabeth, and daughter Anna Elisabeth (age 2) are recorded on the 1767 census of Müller in Household No. 15. They had settled there on 16 August 1767.

The Oranienbaum passenger list records that Johann Henning came from the German region of Darmstadt. The 1767 census records that Johann Peter Henning came from the German village of Altheim in the Darmstadt region.

There are no known surviving male lines of this Henning family among the Volga German colonies.
