Discussion & Documentation

Georg Herrnsdörfer, a farmer, his wife Ottilia, and daughter Magdalena (age 6) arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 16 August 1766 aboard a galliot named Die Wachsamkeit (Vigilance) under the command of Skipper Jacob Heinrich Sager.

Georg Herrnsdörfer, his wife Ottia, and daughter Magdalena (age 6) are recorded on a list of colonists being transported from St. Petersburg to Saratov in 1767.

Georg Geritzdorf [sic] (age 50), his wife Ottilia (age 29), and stepdaughter Margaretha [surname not recorded] (age 7) are recorded on the 1767 census of Hölzel in Household No. 42. They had arrived in Hölzel on 11 September 1767.

The Oranienbaum passenger list records that Georg Herrnsdörfer came from the German region of Bamberg. The 1767 census records that Georg Geritzdorf [sic] came from the German village of Neubrunn in the Bamberg region.

There are no known surviving male lines of this family among the Volga German colonies.
