There are two Hill families from Schaffhausen. Their relationship to each other, if any, requires further research.
(1) Nicolaus Gill [sic] & Dorothea Elis. Albers were married on 4 August 1766 in St. Mary's Lutheran Church in Lübeck.
Nikolaus Gille [sic] and his wife Elisabeth arrived from Lübeck at the port in Oranienbaum on 21 September 1766.
Nicolaus Gille [sic] and his wife Elisabeth are recorded on the list of colonists being transported from St. Petersburg to Saratov in 1767.
Nikolaus Hill, a tailor (Schneider), and his wife Elisabeth are recorded on an appendix to the 1767 census of Paulskaya in Household No. 39.
Nikolaus Hill from Schaffhausen and his stepson Johann Helbrecht are recorded on the 1798 census of Bettinger in Household No. Bt17.
The 1767 census records that Nikolaus Hill came from the German village of Snetning [?].
(2) In 1785, Herrmann Hill and his family moved from Schaffhausen to the Caucasus.
