Johannes Hofmann was born 4 October 1718 in Frensdorf. He married on 4 February 1754 in Frensdorf to Kunigunda Beck. She had been born 23 January 1723 in Untergreuth.

Johannes Michael Hofmann, son of Johannes Hofmann & Kunigunda Beck, was born 29 January 1756 in Frensdorf.

The father Johannes Hofmann died 12 January 1758 in Frensdorf.

Widow Kunigunda Hofmann née Beck remarried on 19 February 1759 in Frensdorf to Martin Ziegemann.

The births of two children to Martin Ziegemann & Kunigunda Beck are recorded in Obergreuth: (1) Johannes Lorenz, born 12 November 1759; and (2) Barbara, born 6 March 1762.

Martin Ziegemann, a farmer, his wife Kunigunda, and children (Michael [Hofmann], age 15; Lorenz, age 7; Barbara, age 4) arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 12 September 1766 aboard a ship under the command of Skipper Heinrich Sager.

Martin Ziegmann [sic], his wife Cunigunda, and children (Michel [sic] [Hofmann], age 16; Laurentius [sic], age 8; Barbara, age 5) are recorded on the list of colonists being transported from St. Petersburg to Saratov in 1767.

They settled in the Volga German colony of Hölzel on 11 September 1767 and are recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 18.

Michael Hoffmann and his family are recorded on the 1798 census of Hölzel in Household No. Hz09.
