Anton Hölzel, a single teacher (Lehrer), arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 22 August 1766 aboard a galliot named Die Vergoldete Weintraube (The Guilded Grape) under the command of Skipper Joachim Hermann Andersen.
Anton Höltzel [sic] is recorded on the list of colonists being transported from St. Petersburg to Saratov in 1767.
He settled in the Volga German colony of Hölzel on 11 September 1767 and is recorded there as a clerk (Schreiber) on the 1767 census in Household No. 1 along with his new wife, Rosina. He is recorded there as the mayor (Vorsteher) of the colony and it is after him that the colony received its name.
Both the Oranienbaum passenger list and the 1767 census record that Anton Hölzel came from Vienna, Austria.
There are no known surviving male lines of this Hölzel family among the Volga German colonies.
